3 Signs Your Septic System Needs Service

27544058_sThe fall season is in full swing and the weather is a sure sign that the winter is just around the corner.
The cold weather brings plenty of concern for staying warm but, it can also bring concern for keeping the various systems of your home protected.
This is especially true for your plumbing system. A large portion of your plumbing system is buried in the ground outside of your home.
If your home uses a septic system to manage the wastewater and solids that are generated by your household, then the cold weather can be very harsh on your system.
With the system being buried in ground, the cold weather can cause more wear and tear than any other system of your home.
This is especially true for septic system users – you must have your system regularly inspected and pumped by a professional plumber.
Here are a few signs that your septic system is in need of professional support:

  • There is a buildup of sludge due to the septic tank not having been pumped. The tank of your septic system should be pumped at least once every three years – maybe more if you have several people living in your home and using the plumbing system
  • There is a smell coming out of the drains that is similar to the smell of rotten eggs. This is actually sewer gas that you are smelling and you should have this scenario inspected by a professional plumber right away
  • None of the toilets in your home are working properly. Either they are constantly getting clogged or they are not flushing the right way. It is nearly impossible for a toilet to function properly when there is a problem with the septic system

Make sure that your home is ready for the winter weather by keeping an eye opened for these signs of trouble. A failed septic tank or drain field will lead to leaking and flooding of raw sewage throughout your yard.
This is an issue that is both costly and stressful to get cleaned up – not to mention that your plumbing system will be out of order until the repair is done.
