How To Keep Your Yard Summer Ready During A Underground Plumbing Malfunction

40508040_sMost people don’t realize that there is a completely separate part of their plumbing system buried under the ground outside of their home. For the most part, if there is a problem with a drain or a faucet it is typically thought to be localized to the plumbing just underneath the fixture. In fact, many indoor plumbing problems can be traced back to problems with the outdoor (buried) plumbing. In the summer time, having a problem with the portion of the plumbing system that is buried can mean a flooded yard and a major plumbing repair project.
Approaching these types of jobs using trenchless technology is usually the easiest and least disruptive. After all, you want to be relaxing in the backyard and listening to the kids play in the pool as much as possible – not dealing with a major plumbing repair where your yard has to be dug up.
To determine if your underground plumbing malfunction can be fixed using a trenchless approach, your plumbing first has to be inspected using a video camera. This allows the trenchless technician to get a real-time look at what the malfunction is and then he or she will be able to give you the information needed to make decisions on how best to proceed. In many situations, the video camera inspection will show that the pipe or many pipes have been damaged by shifting soil, sagging, or even tree roots growing nearby. In these situations, the best and most effective fix is going to be pipe re-lining.
Pipe re-lining is a technique where a narrow hole is bore into the ground and a tubing material is fed down the hole and into the pipe – usually at the point of a joint or fitting. Once the material is fed through the pipe – and through the section of the pipe that is damaged – it is inflated so that it pushes against the inside circumference of the existing pipe. This tubing material is equipped with a coating of high-quality adhesive and as it pushes on the inside of the existing pipe it adheres with a bond that is unbreakable and impenetrable by any water or other.
Pipe re-lining is a highly-effective, long-term solution for broken or cracked pipes and the trenchless technology used to access the pipes will have you and your family playing in the backyard again in no time!
